FAQ2

Account – Registration

Your Headspace account and credentials are separate from any accounts on other sites or services, to include the main TRN site – you need to set up a new account specific to the Headspace site.  (Your Headspace account can certainly use the same username and password as the main TRN site if you desire.)

1. On the front page you’ll see the following:

To register for your new account, click on the “Register” link.

2. Fill out the registration form:

3. You will receive a confirmation email with a verification link.  Click on that link.

4. You may need to enter your new username and password to log in.

(Note: you will be limited in what you can do until you begin to update your profile.)

User Profile – Avatar

You will not be able to see or do much on the Headspace site until you upload your avatar (profile picture).

1. Navigate to your profile page in order to upload or change your avatar.  You can get to your profile by selecting the current avatar in the menu, or by selecting “User Profile” in the menu.

2. Click on the current or default avatar:

3. Upload and configure your desired avatar:

4. Most of the site will be usable once you finish uploading your avatar.  It is highly suggested that you continue to set up and configure your profile and preferences.

User Profile – “About”

There are a number of items that you may choose to share about yourself.  You may choose which of these elements you would like to fill in, and you may configure which elements are shown to the site users.

Notifications

You may configure the types of notifications you receive for specific events.

1. To configure your notifications, navigate to your user profile page, and then select the “About” link, and then the “Notifications” tab:

then:

2. Under the heading “Email Digest” is a toggle option to “Receive Digest Email notifications”.

“Digest Email notifications” are emails that are sent to users that have been inactive (don’t visit the site) for a few days.  They are emailed on Sunday mornings and will contain a summary of some of the recent activity that has been missed in recent days.

3. There are several specific events that can generate notifications.  Each is listed individually with the option to turn on or off both email and on-site notifications for each.

4. There are two different notification types than can be turned on or off.  The first is “Email”; these notifications will be delivered to your email inbox as individual emails.

The second is “On-Site”.  These notifications show up in the site’s menu.

The red box with the white “1” in this picture, next to the globe, represents an unread notification from something other than Messages or a Friend Request:

The red box with the white “1” in this picture, next to the envelope, represents an unread Message notification:

A new friend request notification would appear on the multi-person icon.

5. The last section of the “Notifications” tab, “Group subscriptions”, will enable you to adjust the notification options for each specific group that you are joined to.  The notification options for specific groups may also be configured on each group page.  See the section below titled “Groups”.

6. You are encouraged to adjust each of the notifications according to your individual preferences, but here is a one suggested, example configuration:

Write a New Post

Writing a new post is fairly simple, but there are several options to be aware of.

1. There is a text box at the top of the Recent Activity page that, by default, states, “Say what is on your mind…”.  You may type the text of your new post in this box.  Under this text box are buttons to configure the options.

2. Post Type.  The first button is used to set the post type.  The options are ‘Text’, ‘Photo’, ‘Video’, and ‘Poll’.

2.a. Post Type – Text.  This type of post is used for sharing text.  It may also include links (URLs).

Text areas support a formatting type known as Markdown. Markdown is a lightweight markup language with plain text formatting syntax. It is designed so that it can be converted to HTML and many other formats (Wikipedia)

Some examples:

**bold text** for bold text
*italic text* or _italic text_ for italic text
`inline code` for inline code
~~strikethrough~~ for strikethrough
[link](https://thereloadersnetwork.com) for link

2.b. Post Type – Photo.  This type of post is used for sharing pictures.  You may share a single photo or multiple photos in the same post.

Choosing the “Photo” post type will bring result in this view.  Click on the screen where it says, “Click here”:

Note that you may upload and share more than one photo in the same post.  Also, note that you may include a text note with the photo(s) by typing where it says, “Say something about this photo…”:

2.c. Post Type – Video.  Video may not be uploaded to or stored on the Headspace site, but videos from other sites may be shared in your posts.  The “Video” post type may be used to share videos from some of the more popular video hosting sites such as YouTube and Vimeo.

To share the video, enter the link in the box stating, “Enter video URL here”, and then enter any text, description, or discussion under that box where it states, “Say what is on your mind…”:

(Note: any video hosting site that doesn’t work with the “Video” post type can still be shared using the URL in the “Text” post type.)

2.d. Post Type – Poll. You may conduct a poll by using the “Poll” post type.

3. Privacy.  The second button is used to set the post privacy.  The options are ‘Public’, ‘Site Members’, ‘Friends Only’, and ‘Only Me’.

  • Public – any person on the Internet is able to view your post
  • Site Members – any person with a Headspace account that is logged in is able to view your post
  • Friends Only – only those Headspace users that are your “friends” will be able to view your post
  • Only Me – you’re talking to yourself

The privacy of each post may be adjusted later.

4. Post to.  The third button may used to specify where the new post is posted to.  The options are ‘My profile’ and ‘A group’.

Posts to “My profile” will be visible (as determined by the post’s privacy settings):

  • to those users viewing the “Community” Activity Stream
  • to those viewers viewing the “Following” Activity Stream that are following you (i.e. “Friends”)
  • to those viewers that are viewing your profile
  • to viewers that conduct a search that includes items in your post

**see “Filter What is Displayed in the Activity Stream” below

Choosing “A group” will allow you to search for and choose a group that you are currently joined to.

5. Example of draft post.  This is a text post.  The privacy is set to “Only Me”.  It’s being shared to “My profile”.  And, I also shared my mood by clicking on the smiley face button.  All that’s left is to push the red and white “Post” button:

6. Edit or Delete post.  Once posted, a post may deleted or edited by using the little drop-down arrow in the upper right corner.  Pressing this arrow displays the options to “Edit Post” and “Delete Post”.

7. Change privacy settings. The privacy settings for each post may be updated by selecting the icon for the current setting and choosing the desired setting:

8. Other user’s profile. You may leave a message on another user’s profile by navigating to that profile and writing the post in the box that appears at the top of their “Stream”.  These posts can only be the “text” type, and the privacy options are ‘Public’, ‘Site Members’, and ‘Friends Only’.  Note that writing on another user’s profile stream is not the same as a private message – other users will be able to see the post.

9. Posting to a group. In addition to posting to a group using the “Post to” option (see #4 above), you may also post in a group by navigating to the specific group and writing the post in the box that appears at the top of the group stream.  These posts can be the ‘Text’, ‘Photo’, ‘Video’, or ‘Poll’ type.  The privacy will be whatever the overall privacy of the group is.

Groups

Much of the community interaction will take place in Groups.  You may find the list of Groups by selecting Groups in the menu under Community:

Note that on the Groups page there are two tabs – “Groups”, and “Group Categories”:

There are three privacy levels for Groups:  Open, Closed, and Secret

  • Open – Anyone can join this group and participate.  Non-members can see everything in the group, but they can’t post, comment, etc.
  • Closed – Users need to be invited or request group membership and be accepted.  Non-members can only see the group’s “about” page.
  • Secret – Users need to be invited.  Non-members can’t see the group at all.

Each group has a group owner.  A group may also have managers and/or moderators.  The rules of each group are created and enforced by the group’s owner, manager, and moderators.  (The Community Guidelines still apply.)

You may create your own groups.  Use the “Create Group” button at the top of the Groups page.  (Please use either the Closed or Secret privacy levels.)

Two specific groups to note:

  • Announcements” – Everyone should join this group as it will be used at times to provides various important announcements and updates from the site administrators.  (The ability to create posts in that group is restricted to administrators.)
  • Support” – An excellent means by which to seek help, ask questions, give suggestions and feedback, and get any other support as it relates to the use of the website.

Notifications for Group Activity

Notification options for specific groups may be set in the notification section of the user profile.  They may also be set from the specific group page.

  • Follow – causes all new posts to the group to show up in your recent activity stream

  • Receive e-mails – causes each new post to generate a notification email that is delivered to your inbox

Filter What is Displayed in the Activity Stream

The posts that are shown in the Recent Activity stream may be filtered with the push of a button.

1. At the top of the activity screen, just below where you may enter a new post, are a couple of buttons.  The first enables you to filter the recent activity stream to view posts by the entire community, or to restrict the posts viewed to only those from the members and groups that you are following.

  • Following – all posts from:
    • Your ‘Friends’:
      • posted to their own profile (with a privacy setting other than “Only Me”)

Saving Favorite Posts

Community members may save posts, or mark posts as favorites, with one click. This works like a comment or post bookmark feature. Saved posts can be accessed by using the “Saved” filter on main community stream.

To save a post, look at the bottom right corner of the post for the bookmark ribbon icon.  Depending on your device it may also include the word “Save” next to it.

Clicking on this bookmark ribbon icon will save the post.  You will receive a temporary message that states that the saving of the post is complete.  The bookmark ribbon icon will now be solid.

Selecting this same bookmark ribbon icon again will remove the post from your list of saved posts.
